Client CRH wanted to tell the story of their business and industry in the design of their space, through not only displays but the architectural details of their refined new HQ. The client coordinated delivery of samples of their rock aggregate from quarries all over the US and Canada to us in Atlanta, and our fabrication partners devised a system of custom gabion walls to contain the material. While the metal wall components were in production, our team coordinated washing the aggregate to reduce dirt and dust during the interior installation, which required devising several cleaning methods and even custom tools to spread and filter the materials as they were cleaned. As preparations continued, our graphics team designed a layout of the different colors and textures of rock aggregate from different regions of the country. Our fabricator partners followed this map as they poured layer after layer of rock into the mesh wall as they installed from the floor up in each location. The result is a clever but subtle architectural reference to one of the company’s primary products.
